Ahem.

*tap tap tap*

Is this thing on?

I sit here in front of laptop, feeling squeamish.

Shy.

Unsure of what to say.

It’s been a while, friends.  And I sincerely thank those of you who have checked in on me, inquiring if everything is all right.

Please rest assured that things are, indeed, all right.

I have not fallen without hope of getting up.

I have not run off with the mailman.  Um, have you met my mailman?

I have not undergone a major crisis.  Unless you count the day that I let a stranger take to my eyebrows with hot wax

Or the day that I decided that it would be a good idea to try my hand at quiche making.

But those are stories for another time.

I’m still around, with my wits about me and my faculties intact as much as they ever were.  No comments from the peanut gallery, please.

To quote the inimitable Carly Simon, I have “turned down the noise in my life.”

I have simplified.

What have I been doing, in the past month that I have not been blogging ad nauseum?

Reading books.  Real ones.  With chapters and covers and everything.

Reading the newspaper.  And I have a news flash for you, friends:  There are people living on Wall Street.  Yup.  Living there.

I must get to the bottom of this.

Looking my children in the eye when they ask me a question and giving them a response fitting to the question that they have posed.

Being a home improvement rock star and redesigning two rooms in my house.

Kicking January’s arse by running six days a week on my treadmill.

Learning how to use the cornucopia of kitchen appliances that my groom bestowed upon me at Christmas.

Not giving a whit about who in cyberspace likes, follows, tweets, retweets, stumbles, or favorites me. Giving a sincere whit about those who I see, face-to-face, on a regular basis.

Thinking idle thoughts.  Without automatically wondering how they might be molded into a new post.

And, friends?  I have enjoyed these simple pastimes.  A lot.

But what about the blog?  A pesky voice whispers in my head.

Truth?

I may come back to it after a bit more time.

But it will not be without a few changes.

A new name, perhaps.  Because I am not Desperate.  The name no longer fits.

Some new guidelines for myself:

Less posts about The Cherubs.  The older they grow, the more certain I am that they don’t want their mother typing up their escapades for all  the world to see.

Less posts, period.  I’m hoping to exchange quantity for quality.

Because, at least for now, I am finding that less is more.

So that’s it.

Do keep an eye out for me in the coming weeks, won’t you?

I’ll be here, coffee pot brewing, ideas percolating, ready to welcome you back with open arms when the time is right.

p.s.  If you’d like to be sure to keep tabs on me, subscribe to my RSS feed by clicking here.  Or you can get my posts delivered via email by clicking here.  Google Friend Connect will be closing its doors soon, and I’d prefer not to lose you when they do.  Thank you.
